Best advice that I can tell you is to visit rachel ray website. She is excellant.I need to cookie recipe!?
ya u can. it's not really important for it to have any flavoring. I've made tons of cakes and cookies without any vanilla flavoring.
Vanilla is optional. You can use other extracts or just keep it plain. There are some great cookies you can make out of cake mixes too, see site below.
Go to allrecipes.com and do an ingredients search.

Here is a Butter Cookies recipe from that site, of course, flavors such as vanilla or almond are always optional.

INGREDIENTS

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup butter

1/2 cup white sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

DIRECTIONS

Cream the butter until light. Gradually add the sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and almond extract.

Gradually blend in the flour. Cover and chill dough for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes, using lightly floured cookie cutters. Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 8 to 12 minutes or until golden. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Decorate as desired.
You got it! Simple butter cookies!

1 cup flour, self rising

4 tablespoons melted butter

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

Mix in bowl, add a little water as needed

Sample you may need to add more sugar

When you can nead by hand and make little balls it is just right

no vanilla? add a shot of syrup

No eggs? sub with mayo

Roll little balls and smash flat on a buttered cookie sheet, bake at 350 until edges start to brown Test cookie after cooling a few minutes

simple, you can also use peanut butter instead of butter

I am a scratch cook so I try and get the measurements right. I cook by some of this and that until the dough is just right and has good flavor.

Over cook the cookie will be hard, under cook it will be gooey

Trial and error makes for the best cookie
Butter cookies require....butter, sugar and flour...they also use vanilla....however...you could add a half tsp water to a tsp instant coffee and flavor with that....coffee cookies.....deeeeelish....add some cocoa powder and they'll be even better...but if you do that add a little more butter so it's not so dry....enjoy
