I am pretty sure what you are talking about are melomakarona cookies. They are a greek cookie often made around the holidays. I am not at home, so I cannot give you my own recipe, but you can easily search google for melomakarona cookies. Most often they are topped with walnuts, but some people use almonds. Hope this helps.
